Artist Statement for "Portals"
There's something about flowers that speaks of liminality, they are a bridge between worlds, an expression that transforms dark into light. At their most expressive and beautiful they are an open gate into death itself- a direct conduit to the underworld. Hands, I see as a gate also, bridging the gap between us and the sensed world, us and what we desire to create, as well as us and others. I'm working with the concept of flowers as portal to the underworld and hands as portal to the inner world.
